Day 1 - Proverbs 1
The Story of Pinocchio gives us a picture of a child who is no longer wanting to be controlled by someone else's hand, but wants to make his own decisions about life and "become a rel boy".
The problem with Pinocchio is that he lacks wisdom. And whether or not you have strings or no strings it's the lack of wisdom that holds you down. Without the wisdom for discernment Pinocchio is controlled by everyone that he meets along his journey. He easily gets persuaded by drifters, thieves, and his peers who all have found a young naive boy to either do their bidding for them, or just someone to go along and join them on a wild ride.
Fortunately, Pinocchio was given instruction by his father and his friend Jiminy Cricket. When Pinocchio finally hits the bottom of the barrel, their words of wisdom start ringing true in Pinocchio's mind and he starts to understand what wisdom really is.
Proverbs 1:7-9 tells us that: Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don't neglect your mother's instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck. This should remind us adults to always place seeds of wisdom in our children's lives. Without this guidance they will be headiong out into the world and will be destined to end up hanging around "Pleasure Island". When we equip them with the tools for life though, they can discern those that come along to steal and destroy.
Who in your life gave you bits of Wisdom?
In what ways do you pass along wisdom?
