Snared, Tangled & Defeated
God had planned something better for us. . . Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Hebrews 11: 40 -12:1
Selfish Desires: James 4:3. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
Secret Sins: Psalms 66:16-18. Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me. For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, my Lord would not have listened.
Careless Words: Matthew 12: 35-37. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
Marriage Conflicts: 1 Peter 3:7b. So that nothing will hinder your prayers.
Your Thought Life
Ones thought life can become a fantasy world to escape reality or to validate present and future pain.
Lustful Fantasies: Matthew 5:27-30. "You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. *****SPECIAL NOTE***** If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Ingratitude: Philippians 4:4-8. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.
Unforgiving Attitudes: Mark 11:22-26 NKJV. So Jesus answered and said to them "Have faith in God. "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses."
Unresolved Conflicts: Matthew 5:23. So if you are standing before the altar in the Temple, offering a sacrifice to God, and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you.
Intimacy With God
Indecision or bad decisions are the fruit of the following.
Too much time on the stormy sea not enough time at the throne. IE Doubt
Hebrew 11:6a. . . without faith it is impossible to please God,
James 1:6 - 7. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;
Pray_er - less ness/Lack of time with God.
Hebrews 11b. . . anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Jeremiah 2:32. Does a young woman forget her jewelry? Does a bride hide her wedding dress? No! Yet for years on end my people have forgotten me.
Neglecting the Word of God. Lack of confidence / boldness, timidity, un-rest)
Hebrews 4:11-16. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
2 Timothy 1:7. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

A HEART COMPROMISED BY THE ROCKS, WEEDS & THORNS
Bitterness: Hebrews 12:15. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
Acts 8:23. For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

Rebellion: 1 Samuel15:22. But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king."
******SPECIAL NOTE***** Rebellion is when we refuse the grace and provision of God and substitute/search for a man made comfort. I call this “self-help” or “self-medication” that manifests itself in the abuse of alcohol, food, sex, recreational and prescription drugs, shopping, and sports for example.
